American comedian Jimmy Kimmel, whose show was temporarily suspended in September, affirmed that the year 2025 had been, “from the point of view of fascism”, a “very good year” in the United States, in a speech broadcast Thursday on a British television channel.

Channel 4 has broadcast an alternative Christmas speech to that of the British monarch every year since 1993. This year, the public channel chose Jimmy Kimmel, a big star of the famous “late night shows”, whose show was suspended in September after he accused the American right of politically exploiting the assassination of Donald Trump supporter influencer Charlie Kirk.

“Honestly, I don’t think I have any idea what’s going on with you. On the other hand, I know what is happening with us and I can tell you that, from the point of view of fascism, it has been a very good year,” he declared at the opening of his speech.

“Tyranny thrives here,” he added, before returning in detail to his suspension. Faced with accusations of censorship, he finally found his way back to the studio a week later.

“King Donnie VIII”

“The fact that a government silences its critics is something that happens in countries like Russia, North Korea and Los Angeles but not in the United Kingdom,” he quipped, before warning the British: “Everything is moving very quickly. »

But the American president, whom he called “King Donnie VIII”, an allusion to Henry VIII, “lost”, he assured, in a reference to the fact that his show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” » has been extended until mid-2027.

He also called on the British not to “abandon” the Americans. “We are going through a difficult time at the moment but we will get through it,” he added.

Among the personalities who have already sent the alternative Christmas message are the comedian Stephen Fry, in 2023, and the whistleblower Edward Snowden, in 2013.
