Four Hills Tournament: Weißflog on ski jumping: “Obvious bullshit over”

For the former Four Hills Tournament winner Jens Weißflog, the ski jumping tricks went far beyond the Norwegian suit scandal.

“The Norwegians have exceeded the limit, there is no wrongdoing. But they apparently needed this occasion to end the obvious bullshit supported by the World Ski Association,” said Weißflog in an interview with the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” immediately before the tour.

The World Cup in Trondheim was overshadowed by a scandal over manipulated Norwegian suits. Videos filmed and published anonymously showed the Norwegian team editing competition suits in an unauthorized manner. An unauthorized seam was added to ensure more stability for the plane in the air.

“Size of the suits was no longer normal”

“It pissed off a lot of people in ski jumping that some of the suits hung at the knees, everyone saw this situation and no one did anything about it,” said Weißflog, describing the situation last season. In his opinion, almost everyone cheated – and too many got away with it, said the 61-year-old.

“The size of the suits was no longer normal, and shortly before the jump they were deliberately pulled down in order to have more buoyancy in the air. There was often three to four times too much leeway,” said Weißflog.

Weißflog thinks the rule changes that have been made with tighter suits and stricter controls make sense. “But of course we continue to try to find new buoyancy surfaces and make the most of the regulations,” said the ski jumper, who won the tour in 1984, 1985, 1991 and 1996.
