Support association collects donations for an exhibition in the Potsdam Museum

In a watercolor from 1951, the Potsdam painter Otto Heinrich sums up the paradox of the post-war period. You can see the Old Market: the half-bombed St. Nicholas Church in the back, colorful hustle and bustle in front of it. Everything is kept in light colors and seems to be in motion.

The watercolor by Otto Heinrich (1891–1967) will be on display in the Potsdam Museum from mid-May 2026 as part of the exhibition “Space for New Things? Visions for the Old Market 1945–2025”. It is scheduled from May 16 to October 25, 2026. However, like several other works in the museum’s collection, it is in need of restoration. This is where the museum’s support association steps in: it calls for donations to make the works suitable for exhibition.

The association lists fifteen objects worth supporting on its website, along with the amount of work required. Otto Heinrich’s watercolor must be dry-cleaned, adhesive tape must be removed, cracks closed and retouched. There are also less well-known manuscripts than Heinrich’s: a motif from the 1980s by Wolfgang Baumgart with youthful punk, for example, or a painting by the Teltow artist Gerda Ebert (born 1946) from 1990. It shows the former theater shell on the Alter Markt – in the style of Lyonel Feininger. The bank details and further information can be found on the website of the support association wirsagen.org.
