French coach Gasset dies aged 72

The former French football coach and player Jean-Louis Gasset is dead. He died at the age of 72, as announced by his former club HSC Montpellier, among others. “We are infinitely sad as we remember his smile, his inimitable voice and his sharp mind,” the club wrote. Gasset’s son Robin is part of the team of assistant coaches there.

The French sports newspaper “L’Équipe” also reported on the coach’s death, citing those close to Gasset. In his long career, Gasset coached the HSC three times. The club from the south of France was his last stop as coach until April of this year. Gasset was also an assistant at the French national team under the then coach Laurent Blanc and at Paris Saint-Germain. From 2022 to 2024 he was the national coach of the Ivory Coast. He then coached Olympique Marseille.
