The price of electricity drops close to zero on Christmas Eve

The average hourly price of exchange electricity for consumers (incl. VAT 25.5 percent) is exceptionally low on Wednesday. The price drops throughout the day and hits its lowest point in the evening, being only 0.3 cents per kilowatt hour from 9 p.m. until midnight.

The hourly prices stated in the article are averages calculated from the four quarter-hour prices for each hour. The electricity exchange Nord Pool switched to 15-minute pricing from the beginning of October 2025.

Wednesday’s price level is clearly below the typical hourly price of around four cents. Although prices below five cents are common and occur about half the time, hourly prices below one cent are rarer.

Also on Tuesday, the price of electricity has remained moderate. After the highest hours in the morning, the price has decreased, and in the evening hours it moves at the level of less than four cents.
