Partner arrested after death of 34-year-old woman in Lille: family starts fundraising campaign for funeral

Belgian woman (34) found dead in an apartment in Lille: partner indicates that the situation escalated after a night of drinking

The victim was found dead around noon on Thursday in her partner’s home in a working-class district of Lille. The police noted, according to the local newspaper The Voice of the North traces of blood on the bedroom door and on damaged furniture.

Two people have now been arrested, including the victim’s 36-year-old partner. He was found cowering in the bedroom by emergency services. He himself was covered in scratches, according to the local press.

The man had called the emergency services himself and admitted that the situation had escalated after a night of drinking. He was only known to the police for a traffic violation.

Investigation started

Although local media use the term femicide, the Lille public prosecutor’s office is still cautious. “The criminal nature of the acts has not yet been established,” said prosecutor Samuel Finielz. Detectives are awaiting further investigation results, which are expected later this weekend.

Family and friends of the 36-year-old woman, who appears to be from Mouscron, have now started a fundraising campaign to give the young mother “the farewell she wanted”.
