Strong wind is now cutting off electricity – about 20,000 Finnish households in the dark on Saturday afternoon

The strong wind has caused power outages, especially in western Finland. At 16:05 there were 14,653 households without electricity in Finland, at 16:20 the reading was already 19,061. The numbers are shown From the power outage map of the energy industry.

In the afternoon, the most households without electricity were in Närpiö and Kristiinakaupunki in Ostrobothnia. In both locations, well over 2,000 customers were without electricity.

The energy industry map is constantly updated. The number of households without electricity has increased as Saturday progresses.

At 2:40 p.m. there were 11,354 households without electricity, at 2:20 p.m. just under 10,000, at 1:55 p.m. around 6,700 and at 1:29 p.m. just under 5,400.

Winds are predicted to intensify towards Saturday evening throughout the country. However, the strongest gusts are concentrated in the western part of the country, says the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.

In the west, during Saturday evening and the night before Sunday, the wind is forecast to rise to more than 20 meters per second, in the provinces of the west coast south of North Ostrobothnia and South Ostrobothnia, there are warnings of gusts blowing more than 25 meters per second.

Although power outages have so far been concentrated in the west, outages also occurred on Saturday in Päijät-Hämee and Etelä-Savo, among others.
