Boxing star Joshua involved in accident with two deaths

“A vehicle rammed a stationary vehicle. Unfortunately there were two fatalities. Anthony Joshua was treated by first responders at the scene and then taken to hospital,” the Daily Mail quoted the Ogun State Commissioner of Police as saying. Nigerian authorities have confirmed that the 36-year-old is doing well, the BBC reported.

Promoter makes statement

Videos on the Internet show Joshua being lifted out of a badly damaged car with his bare torso and his face contorted in pain. The English-born son of Nigerian immigrants was sitting in the back seat behind the driver’s seat. The accident is said to have occurred on a highway in Makun.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn told the Daily Mail that he was on a family holiday and found out about the incident in the morning: “We are trying to contact Anthony and don’t want to speculate about his condition at the moment, but luckily he seems to be doing well from the pictures I’ve seen.” We are waiting for further information and will then comment again.

Joshua was Olympic champion in 2012 and then world heavyweight champion for several years. In 2017 he won a spectacular title fight against Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko at London’s Wembley Stadium. Just ten days ago he caused a stir with his victory against American internet star Jake Paul in Miami.
