Fear for former world boxing champion Anthony Joshua following a road accident in Nigeria

Fear for the former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua, British citizen of Nigerian origin, injured in a road accident that killed two people in Nigeria.

Joshua’s manager Eddie Hearn told Daily Mail Sport that Joshua was on holiday with his family and “woke up to the news of this incident”.

“We are trying to contact Anthony and in the meantime we don’t want to speculate on his condition, but luckily he seems fine from what I’ve seen in the images,” he said.

The Punch newspaper reported that the accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the car he was traveling in collided with a truck.

A witness to the crash said Joshua was traveling in a convoy of two vehicles and was sitting behind his driver.

“The passenger next to the driver and the person next to Joshua died on the spot,” Adeniyi Orojo told Punch News.

Earlier this month Joshua knocked out the YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at a Netflix-sponsored meeting in Miami.

Next year, former Olympic champion Joshua will face his compatriot and former world champion Tyson Fury.

Joshua’s last fight before the Paul fight was a fifth-round knockout loss to his British compatriot Daniel Dubois in September last year.
