FPT said it has just handed over a batch of source chips to its Japanese partner, initially realizing the goal of exporting self-designed chips to the Asian market.
This line of power chips is specialized for high-performance multifunction printers (MFPs) serving offices and businesses. The chip is evaluated to help manage and stabilize the power source inside the device, protect components against voltage and current fluctuations, and ensure stable operation under high load conditions.
The first batch of chips was delivered to Restar, a group specializing in distributing electronic equipment. This is also the first time a Vietnamese enterprise has brought commercial chips into one of the markets requiring high quality and reliability like Japan.

FPT is currently developing a power chip ecosystem with many different product lines such as PMIC, LDO, BUCK, LED Driver and Power MOSFET, aiming to provide stable power supply with low energy consumption for electronic devices. The company representative said that for many months, FPT’s team of engineers continuously perfected the design, optimized parameters and passed Japan’s rigorous testing system.
The power chip has been evaluated for electrical characteristics, stability and load response, meets reliability testing according to JEDEC standards, and is tested on actual equipment to ensure compatibility and safe operation. In addition to technical requirements, the chip complies with standards for clean materials and environmentally friendly production processes, as well as complies with the chemical declaration system according to chemSHERPA standards, ensuring material transparency and in accordance with the green supply chain requirements of Japanese technology corporations.
The exported batch of chips is a step to concretize the cooperation between FPT and Restar. Previously, the two signed an agreement under the witness of the leaders of the Vietnamese and Japanese governments, which set the goal of Restar distributing 10 million chips designed and manufactured by FPT in the next three years in the Asia-Pacific market.
“Exporting the first batch of commercial chips to Japan is important to FPT as well as affirming the ability of Vietnamese people to master core technology,” said Mr. Tran Dang Hoa, Chairman of FPT IS and Chairman of FPT Semiconductor. “The milestone contributes to affirming Vietnam’s position as an emerging destination in the global semiconductor map, participating more deeply in the world’s high-tech value chain.”

FPT and Restar are also researching and developing many new semiconductor product lines based on the requirements of the Japanese market, including new generation power chips, control chips, microchips used in office equipment, imaging equipment and consumer electronics.
Besides product development, the two sides also exchange engineers and implement joint R&D projects to enhance design capacity and establish a coordination model to provide OSAT packaging and semiconductor testing services. The combination of FPT’s chip design technology, Restar’s supply chain capabilities and market experience is expected to create synergy, helping both sides expand their semiconductor business sustainably.
The global power chip market is expected to reach 59 billion USD by 2030, with the Japanese market alone aiming for a scale of approximately 3 billion USD in the same period. The strong increase in demand for power chips in many fields such as consumer electronics, industrial equipment, automobiles or high-tech applications is considered to help open up opportunities for businesses producing this type of chip.
