Russia accused this Thursday the kyiv army of having carried out a night attack with drones in the part of the Ukrainian region of Kherson controlled by Moscowleaving at least 20 muertos.

The Russian Investigative Committee indicated in a statement that a “massive” attack by Ukrainian drones hit a cafe in the town of Jorly.

The governor of the southern Kherson region appointed by Moscow, Vladimir Balance stated on Telegram that at least 24 people died and that “dozens” were injured, and also published some photos showing charred bodies.

Two days of official mourning were declared in the part of Kherson controlled by Russia added.

For now, the Ukrainian authorities have not reacted to these accusations.

For her part, the spokesperson for Russian diplomacy, Maria Zajárovaaccused kyiv of having carried out a “terrorist attack” against the civilian population during the New Year celebrations.

The town of Jorly is located on the shores of the Black Sea, and is controlled by Russia since the beginning of its offensive in Ukraine, in February 2022.

The Ukrainian army seized much of the Kherson region from Kremlin troops in the fall of 2022, including the eponymous capital.

Since then, the Dnieper River marks the front line in the region, where both sides often launch drone attacks.
