Italian Botti new men’s volleyball national coach

“The German team has a lot of potential, but at the same time it is a great challenge. We now have three years to continuously improve and get the best out of the players,” said Botti.

The former middle blocker, who also played with former national coach Andrea Giani, won, among other things, the Italian championship and cup as a professional as well as the European CEV Cup.

Also successful as a coach

He initially worked as a coach in his home country, then went to Poland and has already won several titles. Last season, the 52-year-old became champion with Bogdanka LUK Lublin – in the final against Winiarski’s team. Botti is currently in charge of the first division club Asseco Resovia Rzeszow, which will face German runner-up Lüneburg in the Champions League next Tuesday.

Winiarski resigned from his position with immediate effect in November for personal reasons. The decisive factor was the double burden of his work as a club trainer. He had trained the national team since the beginning of 2022 and surprisingly qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 – for the first time since 2012. The association spoke to several coaches. Lüneburg’s coach Stefan Hübner was considered a candidate, as was the previous assistant coach Bob Ranner.
