The Toyota Yaris Cross was the best-selling car of 2025

Finland the trade of new cars reached the bottom readings of the millennium in the year that ended.

Almost 72,000 passenger cars were registered for the first time, according to the statistics announced on Friday. The number drops in the mid-1990s, when the country recovered from the recession.

Even in the last decade, Finns bought more than a hundred thousand new passenger cars every year.

Relegation weak consumer confidence, meager economic growth, declining employment and geopolitical nervousness can explain this, estimates the Confederation of Automotive Industry.

Registration is the final point of the car purchase and reflects history, because the car was ordered much earlier. According to the association, customer orders increased at the end of the year, so a six percent increase in registrations is expected for this year.

“The reductions in income taxes and the scrapping premium, which is significant for the car trade, support moderate growth”, says the CEO of the association in the press release Tero Lausala.

In the scrapping campaign, a person scrapping an old car can claim 2,000–2,500 euros for the purchase of a new low-emission car. You can get a bigger amount of the accordion by changing it to a zero-emission, i.e., in practice, fully electric car.

The award application website was opened to the website of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency at the turn of the year.

Coughing the number one brand in the market last year was the Japanese Toyota, which has a monopoly of about 16 percent of the Finnish market.

Besides that, only Volkswagen and Škoda reached double-digit market shares.

Toyota also had four straight on the single bestseller list. The country’s best-selling car was its small SUV Yaris Cross. More than 2,800 units of the hybrid car were sold.

The first all-electric car at the top of the list is Tesla’s Model Y, which can be found in fifth place. Such a model was handed over to just under 1,900 buyers during the year.

In total, plates were screwed to 26,747 electric cars in the country, which means about 37 percent of new passenger cars.

Poor vans were the bright spot of the year. Their registrations grew by about seven percent in the second half of the year.

“With the gradual recovery of construction, the demand for vans is expected to continue to strengthen slightly. The demand for new trucks is also expected to grow cautiously”, says the CEO of Autotuojat ja -teollisuus ry Tero Kallio.
