North Korea: Kim Jong-un’s daughter visits the family mausoleum for the first time with her father latest

On the first day of the year, Kim visited the mausoleum where the remains of his father and grandfather, Kim Jong-il and Kim Il-sung, are located, accompanied by senior officials and family, including his wife, Ri Sol-ju, and his daughter Ju-ae, whose presence was not mentioned in the official texts, but was reflected in the images released.

This is Ju-ae’s first known visit to the mausoleum since he first appeared in state media in November 2022, during an inspection of an intercontinental ballistic missile launch.

Ju-ae’s presence at this event also occurs almost a week after the visit of the North Korean leader with his daughter to a luxury hotel complex, or his trip to Beijing last September to attend the Chinese military parade on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

These increasingly frequent public appearances have been interpreted as one more step in a possible succession, without formal confirmation.

The North Korean media rarely disseminates information about close relatives of the Kim dynasty, which has ruled the country with an iron fist since the 1940s, but the situation has evolved since Kim Jong-un came to power and, especially, with the exposure of the women of the family.
