Major changes in traffic near Split: A new temporary regulation is starting at the Dugopolje intersection

Due to the continuation of the extension of Split (Dugopolje), a key traffic point that connects the city of Split with the A1 highway, from Wednesday, June 7, new traffic regulation will begin in the area of the “vor” and on that part of the A1 highway, Croatian Highways (HAC) announced on Monday.

Due to the complexity of the intervention, traffic on that part of the highway will be difficult, and temporary traffic regulation will be established during the execution of the works, according to HAC.

As they explain, due to the complexity of the work on the extension of that well, it is divided into phases. Phase I works – extension of the exit lane for the direction Zagreb-Split have been completed and in traffic. Works II. and III. have been combined into one phase and include the extension of the exit lanes in the direction of Zagreb and Dubrovnik, the extension of the overpass for the direction of Dubrovnik – Split and the extension of the Podi rotor (after charging in the direction of Split) by adding an additional traffic lane towards Split. In the part of the intervention that is planned in II. phase, only works will be carried out in the area of the Podi rotor, while the part that was supposed to widen the toll passage will not be carried out due to the introduction of a new toll collection system, they stated.

The aim of the extension and reconstruction of the Split station is to increase the capacity and flow of traffic, especially in the summer months, when there are frequent delays and congestion. The expansion of the overpass will enable two-lane traffic in each direction, which will significantly improve the speed for vehicles coming from the direction of Dubrovnik towards Split and from Split towards Zagreb, says HAC.

Regulation of traffic during works

For the purpose of securing the work zone, the establishment of traffic regulation will begin on Wednesday and is expected to last until January 12. During the installation of the temporary regulation, the traffic in the zone of the Split port will proceed regularly in all directions under temporary restrictions, of which the HAC singles out the need to close the section of the A1 highway from the Prgomet port to the Split port (only in the direction of Dubrovnik) from Friday night to Saturday (January 9/10 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.). The bypass route via the Prgomet junction includes the following roads: Prgomet junction (A1) – DC 551 – DC58 – DC8 – DC1 – Split junction (A1).

During the weekend, 10.-11. from now on, traffic will continue to be directed in all permitted directions in the area of Vora Split. The works will start on Monday, January 12, and traffic regulation will be in place until Friday, June 12. Traffic will be managed in the following manner:

  • from the direction of Zagreb in the direction of Split (to the Split port) traffic is guided according to the existing condition, with a note that the exit branch towards the Split toll station is guided by one traffic lane;
  • from the direction of Zagreb in the direction of Dubrovnik, traffic is directed in such a way that vehicles must exit at the Split junction, pass through the Split toll station (exit from the highway), turn in a semicircle at the roundabout (DC1–Ž C6145) and return to the highway for the direction of Dubrovnik by passing the Split toll station (motorway entrance);
  • from the direction of Split to the direction of Zagreb, after passing the Split toll station (entrance to the highway), the traffic is directed in two directions via the exit ramp Zagreb – Split, where vehicles return to the roadway in the direction of Zagreb at the official passage on the highway route;
  • direction Split – Dubrovnik – according to the current situation;
  • from the direction of Dubrovnik to the direction of Zagreb, traffic is guided by the highway, in the čvora Split zone by one traffic lane on the opposite roadway of the highway (roadway in the direction of Dubrovnik);
  • from the direction of Dubrovnik to the direction of Split traffic is diverted, that is, due to the impossibility of using the Split port, vehicles destined for Dugopolje or the city of Split must use the Bisko port. The detour route from Dubrovnik to Split is as follows: Vora Bisko (exit from the A1 highway) – DC 220 – C6260 – DC 1 – Split.

During the execution of the works and the established temporary traffic regulation, additional traffic restrictions are possible in the form of short-term traffic interruptions on all approaches to the mine due to blasting or other works, the HAC concludes.
