Croatian waters: Melting snow will not lead to a sudden rise in water levels

From Tuesday, warming is expected in the whole of Croatia, as well as in the neighboring countries of Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Maximum daytime temperatures this week will reach +10 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures are expected to be close to 0, which will favor a slower snow melt.

Hrvatske vode also notes that moreć in the previous days, there was a significant decrease in the amount of snow cover at most measuring stations in Croatia.

A mitigating circumstance is that, in addition to the predicted warming, no significant amounts of rainfall are expected in the next seven days. A little more rain is expected in the area of ​​the Adriatic and areas along the Adriatic, while mostly dry weather is expected in the continental part of Croatia.

“The announced warming should not cause problems with a sudden rise in water levels or increase the risk of flooding. Despiteč favorable situation, it is still recommended to follow the hydrological and meteorological forecasts of DHMZ on a daily basis in order to be able to react in a timely manner in case of possible changes”, said Hrvatske vode.

According to the data of the State Hydrometeorological Institute, the stations Zavicaron and Sljeme measured the most snow, 60 cm. An average of 20 to 30 cm of snow is recorded in the area of ​​Gorski kotar and Lika.

On the territory of neighboring Slovenia, northwestern Croatia and Slavonia, there is an average of 5 to 15 cm of snow. Similar snow values ​​were measured in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatian Waters announced.
