Sheinbaum disgraces the opposition that relied on a disagreement with Trump to justify an intervention

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has disgraced her country’s opposition for expecting the telephone conversation she had the day before with her American counterpart, Donald Trump, to go wrong, and thus justify an intervention.

“They expected (…) that there would be a bad way out to blame the president,” he said this Tuesday in his morning press conference, in which he recalled that “a lot of work” has cost Mexico to achieve its independence and sovereignty since the last attempted US invasion in 1914.

Sheinbaum has pointed out that those who seek intervention from the United States are those who “do not have internal strength, who rely on others to be able to guarantee their influence” in Mexico. In that sense, it has mainly targeted the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the National Action Party (PAN).

On the other hand, the president has thanked the latest intermediation of the US ambassador, Ronald Johnson, to be able to maintain the telephone meeting with Donald Trump, after the latter suggested last week the possibility of launching an attack against the cartels in Mexican territory.

“When we ask for support from the ambassador for some effort with the United States Government, he has always helped us,” acknowledged the president, who this Monday rated the conversation with a Trump who insists on the participation of US forces in the fight against the cartels as “very good.”

“He, in general, insists on the participation of United States forces. We always say that it is not necessary. We are very clear in the defense of territoriality and that there is also collaboration that is working,” he said.
