Newcomer Timo Kielich combines cobblestone races with Giro at Visma-Lease a Bike: “Now it is positioning for Jonas Vingegaard”

“I think my role will be similar to last year,” he says. “Helping with positioning in the early final, so that we never end up on the defensive. So my role remains the same, although the vision here is a little different: it doesn’t really matter who wins the race, as long as it is someone from the team. If we get into the final with several riders, it also opens up opportunities for myself, which is also nice.”

The Giro will follow shortly after the spring, where Kielich will be part of the team around top favorite Jonas Vingegaard. It will be the third Giro for the Limburger, after two years in the service of a sprinter. “Now it will be positioning for Vingegaard. A slightly different role than I am used to, but if we manage to win the Giro, then it will be something unique to be part of.”

Kielich does not repeat himself to his old team: “This team has a different vision than my previous one in various areas, but neither is better than the other. The way of working is different here, but more than one road leads to Rome.”
