Meta boosts its AI infrastructure with its new Meta Compute initiative

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has presented his new Meta Compute initiative a project designed for strengthen your artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, in order to continue building gigawatt power in the coming years and offer personal superintelligence to all users.

The company is focused on moving towards development of AI superintelligence, for which, at the beginning of July of last year, he announced the creation of his new team Superintelligence Labs led by experts in the field such as Alexander Wang and Nat Friedman.

Along with this, Meta also shared at that time his forecasts for investing “hundreds of billions of dollars” in computing, introducing new data centers that will have more than one gigawatt of power and will be available this year.

Now, following this line, Zuckerberg himself has announced a new initiative which is referred to as MetaComputewith which it aims to reinforce its plans to increase the AI ​​infrastructure, with the idea of ​​building “tens of gigawatts this decade and hundreds of gigawatts or more over time.”

This is what the CEO of Meta explained in a post on Threads, where he stressed that it is a relevant project given that will influence the company’s strategic advantage, which will be based on how they design, invest and partner to build said AI infrastructure.

This Meta Compute initiative will be led by the Director of Global Infrastructure of the company, Santosh Janardhanand recent addition to Meta and former CEO of Safe Superintelligence, Daniel Gross. In the case of Janardhan, he will continue to lead the technical architecture, the software stack, the silicon program, developer productivity and the construction and operation of its fleet and global network of data centers.

For his part, Gross will direct a new group responsible for long-term capacity strategy, as well as partnerships with suppliers, and will carry out industry analysis, along with business planning and modeling.

The Meta Compute initiative will also be subject to the new president and vice president of Meta, Dina Powell McCormicl, who was recently appointed and who will work in the partnership with governments and sovereigns to “build, implement, invest and finance Meta’s infrastructure”, as Zuckerberg explained.

As a result of all these efforts, the CEO of the technology company has stated that his final objective is to scale Meta Compute and, with this, be able to offering personal superintelligence to “billions of people around the world.”
