Mikhail Fedorov appointed Minister of Defense of Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada voted to appoint Mikhail Fedorov as Minister of Defense of Ukraine. This decision was supported by 277 deputies with nine abstentions. Nobody voted against.

Speaking to deputies, the new head of the defense department said that the main directions of his work would be army reform, the fight against corruption and improving conditions at the front, Ukraine 24 reports.

There will be an audit of defense structures, a review of salaries and social security for military personnel. The Ministry of Defense will develop artificial intelligence, air defense and equipping brigades with unmanned aerial vehicles.

Fedorov, who until yesterday held the posts of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Information, replaced Denis Shmygal. President Vladimir Zelensky intended to appoint Shmygal as Minister of Energy, but this initiative did not receive the required number of votes in the Rada.
