2026 will be the year of tourism for Mexico

This will be “Mexico’s year” in tourism and will set the tone to achieve the goal of being the fifth most visited country in the world, said yesterday Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).

Next week Mexico will participate as a special guest in the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), which is taking place in Madrid; Then will come the World Cup in the summer, and the year will close with a series of big events including Formula One and the return of the NFL, he explained.

When participating in the unveiling of a commemorative ticket from the National Lottery on the occasion of Mexico’s participation in Fitur, the official highlighted that the most recent data on the arrival of visitors to the country is encouraging, so it can already be anticipated that this year “will be historic” for the sector.

“It is the year of tourism in our country, a historic year; we are already seeing it. Until November of last year, 15 percent more foreign visitors and 6 percent more tourists arrived. I am sure that in February I will give you the good news that we are going to close 2025 with 2 and a half million more tourists than in 2024,” she said.

He recalled that the mission of the current administration is to publicize the greatness of the country, which “has everything: culture, natural resources, and gastronomy.”
