The Government advances with increases in the midst of privatization, how much will they increase and which ones?

The Government moves forward with an increase of up to 18% in the tolls on national routes and key highways. The update of the tariff table occurs within the framework of the reorganization of regulated tariffs and the privatization process of Corredores Viales, a state company that the Government began to dismantle through tenders to concession different sections, including those of the so-called ‘Mercosur route’.

The measure would come into force from mid-February and will impact logistics costs, with a potential transfer to the prices of final goods. With the new values, The minimum toll for cars during rush hour will go to $1,500, while larger trucks could pay up to $7,500, depending on the number of axles and the schedule.

The update reaches strategic accesses for commerce and daily circulation, such as the Riccheri Highway, Ezeiza-Cañuelas, Buenos Aires-Rosario and Rosario-Córdoba, in addition to more than 10 road corridors distributed in 13 provinces. It will be applied in sections of the national routes 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12 and 205among others.

The initiative was formalized through the resolution 42, published in the Official Gazette, y calls for an online citizen consultation to validate the new tables. The process, which seeks to comply with the usual formal procedure, will be open until February 5 and those interested must complete a digital form to participate.

The Executive maintains that the increase responds to the need to ensure maintenance and the operation to avoid further deterioration of road infrastructure and attract private investments in the future concession scheme. “It is the obligation of the State to ensure the interests of users and ensure the effective enjoyment of their rights,” said official sources when justifying the rate update.

Thus, the increase in tolls occurs with the normalization of regulated prices, after years of rates lagging behind inflation. In the sector they warn that the increase in toll prices adds to other rising costs, such as fuel and insurance and maintenance, in a country where a large part of internal trade depends on truck transportation.
