OpenAI buys Cerebras Systems computing power for more than billion

The American company OpenAI, the developer of the ChatGPT chatbot, has signed an agreement to purchase computing power from the startup Cerebras Systems, whose investor is its CEO Sam Altman.

OpenAI said in a statement that integrating Cerebras solutions into the company’s computing ecosystem will speed up the response of its AI models.

In total, OpenAI will purchase up to 750 megawatts of computing power from Cerebras over three years, Interfax cites the agreement.

The transaction amount is more than $10 billion, writes The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources.

Cerebras Systems is an American company, founded in 2015, headquartered in Sunnyvale (California). Develops chips that the company says accelerate generative AI better than chips from industry leader Nvidia Corp. In 2017, OpenAI and Cerebras were already considering a partnership.
