Óscar Casas and Ana Mena star in ‘Ídolos’, a blockbuster about the world of MotoGP “to be experienced in the cinema”

The next Friday January 23 comes to cinemas’ idols‘, film set in the MotoGP World Championship starring Oscar Casas and Ana Mena. In the film, directed by Mat Whitecross and filmed on real circuits during the World Cup, Casas plays Edu, a young pilot who agrees to train hand in hand with his father, with whom he has a complicated relationship, in order to pursue his dream. A demanding path that will make you weigh your personal relationships and your professional aspirations.

“It is a film that is really made to be experienced in the cinema”states Casas in an interview given to Europa Press in which he highlights the technical level of this production to recreate all the adrenaline of the Moto GP championship. ““It has all the ingredients,” Ana Mena agrees. In the film, the artist plays Luna, a young woman who will make the protagonist reconsider whether he can combine the demands of competition with his personal life.

“It is nice and necessary to have this type of films so that the theaters do not die, they are dying“, reflects Enrique Arce, who in the film plays Eli, team leader of the Aspar Team in Moto 2. “For me, cinema is like magic, it’s like a religion,” says Whitecross, director of the film, pointing out that, in his view, “being at home will never be the same” as being in a movie theater.

The director emphasizes that the passage of films through theaters is something “essential” and that “we all have to try to protect.” In this sense, he explains that ‘Idols’ is a European production conceived as “a Hollywood film” and a “show” so that “it can be seen on a huge screen.”

The filming of the film has developed in professional circuits such as Misano (Italy), Motegi (Japan) and Circuit of the Americas (Austin, United States), as well as in Spanish circuits such as Barcelona, ​​Valencia, Jerez and Motorland de Aragón. When filming during real MotoGP competitions, they had limited time and few opportunities for retakes.

“We are trying to make a movie. They are trying to win a championship“, reflects Whitecross, explaining that they had “a team of 100 people”, drones and helicopters. “Every day there was a problem. Everything could be overcome, but it was difficult“he admits, recalling a day when they had ten minutes to shoot “with a huge audience and with our actors live on television.”

Casas highlights a sequence filmed during the MotoGP final in Barcelona in which he and the riders climbed into a caravan to greet the stadium. “You were one more for the public“recalls Mena. In fact, Casas recalls, the audience even confused him with one of the pilots.”They called me: ‘Jorge Martín!’, because since I was with his monkey they thought it was him“says the actor.

“The first thing I thought was: ‘How can they risk their lives and go 350 kilometers per hour every weekend? It’s really psychopathic and they can’t all be psychopaths.’ And it is not like that; They are very human, but what they have is a passion and an obsession for motorcycles,” explains Casas.

ANA MENA, WITH PLANS TO “COMPAGINE” MUSIC AND ACTING

“She had been focused on music for years. Yes, I wanted to return to acting, but I needed to find a project that I could combine“explains Mena. The singer also has experience as an actress, having worked in series such as ‘Welcome to Eden’. However, ‘Ídolos’ is her first leading role in a film.

“I would like, more frequently, to continue devoting time to acting“, says Mena. “Plans to continue combining both passions, of course they exist. And well, we’ll tell you a few things,” says the artist, who has also composed two songs for the film’s soundtrack. An experience that, she says, was “exciting” but also “a great responsibility“, because he didn’t want the themes to “take people out of the movie.”
