The ice dancers Charise Matthaei and Max Liebers are in the free skating final at the European Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield, UK. The duo, nominated by the German Ice Skating Union, took 17th place after the rhythm dance with 63.49 points. Matthaei/Liebers replaced Jennifer Janse van Rensburg and Benjamin Steffan. The German champions had to forego their participation in the European Championships at short notice due to an infection in Steffan.
After the rhythm dance and before the free dance of the best 20 couples on Saturday (from 7:30 p.m.), the French duo Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron are in the lead with 86.93 points. Behind them are Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson from Great Britain (85.47 points) and the Italians Charlène Guignard and Marco Fabbri (84.48 points).
