Pilgrim’s will invest $1.3 billion in the country

The global company Pilgrim’s – dedicated to the industrialization of chicken products – announced an investment of 1.3 billion dollars throughout the six-year term, the majority of which, 950 million dollars, will be invested in the southeast of the country, in Veracruz, Campeche and Yucatán, to consolidate its presence in that region. “It is a very appropriate area for poultry production: it has the climate conditions to have high productivity,” said the director of Pilgrim’s México, José de Jesús Muñoz.

President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed that the Mexican economy “is going very well”, which is why this announcement dispels the idea that “there is no certainty for investment, which some have managed (…) In Mexico we want there to be private investment. Of course, it must comply with environmental and national development provisions, there cannot be a company that consumes a lot of water in a place where there is not much water.”

Job creation

In the context of this announcement at the National Palace, Sheinbaum announced that in the next two weeks a report will be given on the first year of operation of Plan Mexico, expressing his satisfaction because this mechanism will allow greater private investment in the energy sector.

Muñoz explained the scope of the investments: “we are increasing the productive capacity with more than 373 thousand tons per year, a growth of 38 percent for the company in Mexico. At current numbers, it represents 35 percent of the current imports of chicken products. This investment is perfectly aligned with Plan Mexico, of generating development in the poles where the country needs it most, and at the same time, we contribute to reaching the goal of food sustainability.”

He highlighted that 4 thousand direct jobs will be generated – more than 4 thousand, in fact –, which have two characteristics: first. They are sources of work that are brought to rural communities and, second, they create possibilities for our people, our team to grow, with new supervisors and managers, personnel who can make a career in the company.
