Samvel Karapetyan is already in the detention center

Today, the Court of Appeal satisfied the appeal of the General Prosecutor’s Office, by which the law enforcement officers demanded the abolition of house arrest.

The owner of “Tashir Group” accused of calling for power seizure and economic crimes remained under house arrest for 17 days. At the end of the year, his lawyers petitioned the court to release him from custody. The judge imposed house arrest and bail of 4 billion drams.

However, the prosecutor’s office submitted a complaint to the appellate court, demanding the annulment of the proceedings initiated on the basis of the lawyers’ petition, by which the court imposed house arrest, as well as the return of the 4 billion drams bail. The appellant satisfied both of these demands of the prosecution.

At the moment, the court is examining the petition submitted by the prosecutor’s office regarding the extension of Samvel Karapetyan’s detention.

Karapetyan appeared on the accused’s chair when he announced that he would defend the Armenian Apostolic Church, which was targeted by the authorities, “in his own way”. The head of the investigative committee, Artur Poghosyan, in a conversation with journalists two months ago, insisted that the accusation is well-founded.

Months ago, Karapetyan made a political bid from prison and announced that he would fight to remove Nikol Pashinyan from power. He leads the “Our way” movement, which will soon become a party. However, he cannot be a candidate for the prime minister because he has dual citizenship.
