First image of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft: a new chapter for the “Tomb Raider” saga

Filming has only just begun, and a release date has not yet been officially announced. But Prime Video already wants to launch its promotional campaign. The on-demand streaming service has revealed the first image from its new series “Tomb Raider”.

We obviously see the new heroine who will play Lara Croft: Sophie Turner. The “Game of Thrones” star appears in an outfit that made the character famous: shorts and a tank top with two guns in his hands, tinted glasses on his nose and his hair tied up.

An early fan of the eponymous video games, the 29-year-old British actress was chosen by creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge (known for the series “Fleabag”) to play this role of adventurous archaeologist so difficult to reprise since Angelina Jolie’s successful stint for two parts in 2001 and 2003.

She will be able to draw on a very high-level cast with Sigourney Weaver, triple Oscar nominee, Jason Isaacs, aka Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter, or even Sasha Luss, known for “Anna” (2019). Jonathan Van Tulleken will serve as director and executive producer.

If no details have yet been revealed about the plot, the series should be centered on a completely new adventure, and not on the direct adaptation of one of the games in the saga. It will be broadcast exclusively on Prime Video by 2027.
