An Israeli Army tank fires on a UNIFIL position in southeastern Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) denounced this Friday that an Israeli Army tank has fired about 30 small-caliber bullets against one of the ‘blue helmets’ positions in southern Lebanon, in the midst of the ceasefire agreed in 2024.

“The bullets hit a guard post and one of them entered one of the bedrooms, probably after having ricocheted. Fortunately, the tenant was not present when the bullet entered and no one was injured,” reads a statement.

At the time of the incident, UNIFIL asked the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) through its communication mechanisms to “cease fire.” He has also reminded them of their obligation to guarantee the safety of the peacekeepers and to cease activities that endanger “them and their positions.”

“Any action that puts the ‘blue helmets’ at risk constitutes a serious violation of UN Security Council resolution 1701 and undermines the stability we are trying to achieve,” he reiterated.

For now, the Israeli authorities have not commented on the matter. However, this complaint comes just hours after reporting an Israeli drone attack against a patrol in the town of Adeise, when it was alerted about a “potential danger” in a home where “an explosive device connected to a detonator” was found.

UNIFIL recorded at least eight attacks against its troops during the year 2025, when the ceasefire agreed in November 2024 was already in force, which provided for the withdrawal of both Israel and the Shiite militia party Hezbollah from southern Lebanon, although Israel maintains troops deployed in five points and has launched attacks and incursions since then.
