Amsterdam handed out 200,000 free tulips to celebrate National Tulip Day

On January 17, in Amsterdam’s Museumplein, in honor of National Tulip Day, about 200 thousand free flowers were distributed to residents and guests of the city, thereby kicking off the international tulip season, writes Euronews. The Dutch celebrate this holiday on the third Saturday of the year.

The famous museum square temporarily turned into a colorful field of flowers: the lawn was covered with thousands of tulips in bright red, yellow and pink shades. The festive installation, dedicated to the arrival of spring and the centuries-old connection of the Netherlands with this symbolic flower, was open to everyone – everyone could independently collect a bouquet and take it with them.

The theme of the current holiday – “Unite with Bloom” – is intended to emphasize the idea of unity and cohesion of people, said Arjan Smith, chairman of the Tulip Promotion Netherlands foundation.
