AI already decides what you eat when you travel: three out of four young people use it to plan gastronomic routes

75% of tourists between 25 and 34 years old use tools artificial intelligence (AI) to plan gastronomic and wine trips, according to the Italian Gastronomic and Wine Tourism Report 2025which confirms a generational change in the way of being inspired and organizing travel experiences.

The study, prepared by Roberta Garibaldi president of the Italian Association of Gastronomic and Wine Tourism points out that AI is used above all for translate menus and content (69% of the total and 77% among young people), in addition to look for ideas and inspiration (60 %) y compare destinations and accommodations (58 %).

By countries, USA leads the use of AI as a source of inspiration (21%), followed by France (18 %) y Germany (16%), while United Kingdom, Austria and Switzerland show more cautious adoption (13%). The perception of risk associated with AI decreases especially among younger people: only 29% of those between 18 and 24 years old believe that the risks outweigh the benefits, compared to 49% among adults between 35 and 44 years old, reflecting greater familiarity with these tools.

Looking ahead, travelers are asking ease of use (60 %), privacy protection (55%, which rises to 71% among the youngest) and accurate information (49%). The most anticipated features are automatic menu translation (46%) and personalized itineraries (36%), along with a growing interest in sustainable travel options.
