Oppo Reno15 Series upgrades AI camera to support creativity

After many generations of focusing on upgrading camera hardware, Oppo Reno15 Series marks a shift in the approach to mobile photography: instead of post-shooting processing, AI algorithms are more deeply integrated into the entire creative chain, from choosing an angle, taking a photo to completing the image. The positioning of the model changed from “Portrait Expert” to “AI Portrait Expert”.

The device launched in the Vietnamese market with two versions Reno15 Pro 5G and Reno15 5G, sharing the same Meteor Shower design language with color changing effects according to light. The smooth velvet glass back combined with a neatly finished frame makes the device easy to hold when taking photos and recording videos for long periods of time.

In both versions, Oppo built the camera system in the same direction, including three main elements: telephoto portrait focal length, super wide-angle selfie camera and creative AI tools. The unification of key features such as 3.5x telephoto portrait camera, 50 megapixel front camera with 100 degree angle and AI Pop-Out helps the photography experience not be fragmented between versions.

50 megapixel portrait telephoto camera, using 1/2.75 inch Sony IMX JN5 sensor, 3.5x focal length (equivalent to 85 mm). This focal length is often used in portrait photography thanks to its ability to reproduce shapes and limit facial distortion.

According to the manufacturer’s description, the bokeh effect on the Reno15 Series is created from a combination of the optical characteristics of the telephoto lens and the portrait AI algorithm. The background is blurred evenly, while the subject is kept clear, including details such as hair or clothing. In complex lighting conditions, AI algorithms help control highlights and shadows, helping photos maintain overall balance.

In night-life shooting scenes, the 85 mm focal length allows you to keep a natural shooting distance, limiting the impact on the subject’s expression. The rear point light sources are processed to create a circular bokeh effect, helping to separate the layer between the subject and the background.

The front camera has 50 megapixel resolution, 100 degree shooting angle, supports autofocus and uses a 1/2.75 inch sensor. This parameter allows the selfie camera to expand its capabilities, not only taking portraits but also recording a wider space in group settings or daily activities.

Wide shooting angle helps bring many subjects and contexts into one frame without the need for supporting accessories. A perspective correction algorithm is applied to limit facial distortion at the edges of the image, while high resolution helps preserve detail in skin, hair and clothing. The selfie camera is therefore oriented as a tool to record collective space and emotions, suitable for young users’ photography and vlogging habits.

In addition to the camera hardware, the device integrates an AI editing toolkit that allows image processing directly on the device. Features include AI portrait lighting correction, AI object removal, AI 2.0 flash photography, multi-color selfie light system and AI Pop-Out.

AI 2.0 flash photography is designed to balance light between subject and background, instead of strongly brightening the entire frame like traditional flash. AI algorithms help preserve skin and outfit details, while preserving ambient light, suitable for indoor or evening shooting scenes.

The multi-color selfie light system allows adjusting light tones directly on the device, creating different effects for each scene without the need for external accessories. Light is evenly distributed to limit harsh shadows and preserve facial details.

AI Pop-Out is a feature that allows AI to automatically identify subjects, separate the background and create new layouts right in the editing interface. This feature supports both still and moving photos (Live Photo), helping to retain the natural movement of the moment. Users can work directly on photos in the library without the need for third-party editing applications.

With the Reno15 Series, Oppo aims to make AI part of the image creation process, instead of just playing a final processing role. The features are designed to help general users create clearly composed, shareable, and personal portraits in everyday life contexts.
