The new fee for electricity users is puzzling: “Just when you’ve learned”

With the power fee, electricity network owners and electricity network companies could charge an additional price if the electricity consumption exceeds a certain power during a quarter-hour period.

“Electricity consumption varies and peak powers are increasing. The electricity grid must be sized according to the need for peak power, and that requires additional investments. Kinni’s own approach to the planned power payment is double-edged. He says that he understands the need for the payment, but on the other hand, from the point of view of consumers, there are questions about the payment.

“Consumers have just learned that electricity consumption and its timing are important,” Kinni said, referring to the spread of exchange electricity contracts.

“Then something like this happens [maksu]which, on the other hand, encourages a bit in the other direction, i.e. towards more even consumption”, Kinni reflected.

The fee is planned to enter into force at the beginning of 2029. The opinion round ended in November.
