Change for Japan: Captain Melzer waives Austria’s number 1

The decision has been made as to who will be in the first qualifying round for the Davis Cup Final 8 between Japan and Austria KURIER Austria Davis Cup Team will form. Davis Cup captain Jürgen Melzer has decided – contrary to the provisional nomination from January 5th – to include Lukas Neumayer (ATP 226) in the five-man squad of the domestic men’s national team instead of Austria’s number one Filip Misolic (ATP 84).

Salzburg will be red-white-red in the international match on the 6th/7th. February in Ariake Colosseum in Tokio together with Sebastian Ofner (ATP 131), Jurij Rodionov (ATP 167) and the two doubles specialists (ATP double 23) and Alexander Erler (ATP double 39) represent.

“The Davis Cup takes place on a hard court indoors, and that is definitely Filip’s weakest surface. At the moment he is unfortunately – for a long time actually – a bit behind his form,” said Melzer two and a half weeks before the showdown in Japan about his nomination and his chances. “And for me, Lukas is a Davis Cup player who has always delivered his best performances there and in whom I have the greatest confidence.”
