Young national player Assan Ouédraogo has to cope with a serious setback in the fight for a World Cup ticket. The 19-year-old will be out for around two months with a knee injury. The midfielder from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig will therefore miss the last two international matches scheduled for the end of March before being nominated.
Ouédraogo sustained the injury in the 2-0 win against SC Freiburg last Wednesday. It’s the same tendon problem that forced the teenager out of action from the end of November until the end of last year. According to Leipzig, an operation is not planned.

Injury a “shock” for Leipzig
The DFB team will meet Switzerland in Basel on March 27th, and three days later the team of national coach Julian Nagelsmann will welcome Ghana in Stuttgart. Ouédraogo made his national team debut in a 6-0 win against Slovakia in mid-November and scored a goal shortly after coming on as a substitute.
“Assan’s injury was actually a shock for us after he had only fought his way back into the team in the last few weeks. His development so far this season has been so positive, and his debut in the national team was absolutely deserved and impressive,” said RB sports director Marcel Schäfer.
