There are the self-promoting directors, the pullers who sit on every committee, the trend-conscious theater ideologues – and there are the unpretentious enablers. Often former dramaturges who make their theater, actors and directors shine with great artistic understanding, quiet persistence and strategic sophistication. Bernd Wilms was such a clever theater worker, who, in addition to theater studies and German studies, also studied philosophy and Protestant theology. Not a theater powerhouse, but a calm, people-friendly intellectual.
