During an interview given to the New York Post, Donald Trump considered “totally ridiculous” the NFL’s choice to schedule the punk rock group Green Day and the Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny as star artists for halftime of the Super Bowl, the final of the NFL championship in American football scheduled for the night of Sunday December 8 to Monday December 9 (midnight: 30 French time).
Leader of Green Day, Bille Joe Armstrong has expressed his dislike of the American president on several occasions during his concerts, in particular encouraging his audience to chant “fuck Trump” on July 4 during a concert in Belgium on the American national holiday.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, lent his support to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the 2024 American election. Known for his commitment to the rights of LGBTQ+ people, the Puerto Rican rapper has in recent weeks become the target of criticism from Donald Trump’s supporters, who notably criticize him for singing in Spanish.
“It’s just too far”
After becoming the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl in 2025, Reuters reports, Donald Trump also indicated that he would not travel to the NFL championship game in 2026.
“It’s just too far,” he told the New York Post to explain this decision, referring to the distance between Washington and the venue planned for the US soccer match, Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
The American president told the American daily that he would have attended the Super Bowl if the trip was “a little shorter”.
