Fertility treatments from home: Pelsanmore’s home vaginal ultrasound

The new service seeks to provide a direct response to this challenge. Instead of returning to the clinic, the woman performs the ultrasound test herself, at home, using a vaginal ultrasound device developed by Plassanmore, connected to a dedicated application. The scans are transmitted in real time to the medical staff of the Fertility and In Vitro Fertilization Unit at Beilinson Hospital, headed by Prof. Yoel Shopro. After the interpretation of the test, clear medical instructions are received for the continuation of the treatment, just as is done in a normal clinical follow-up.

The service is intended for women planning pregnancy and undergoing fertility treatments, including IVF and fertility preservation, as well as women with ovulation disorders, such as polycystic ovary syndrome. In the first phase, there will be a running period of about 18 months, after which, depending on the results and demand, the expansion of the service to additional populations and a wider deployment is expected.

The basis for the launch of the service is a controlled clinical trial carried out at Billinson Hospital. In the experiment, the measurements of the follicles and the thickness of the endometrium made using the home device were compared to the measurements made in the clinic. The results of the study showed a high agreement between the measurements, clinical reliability, complete safety and high satisfaction on the part of the participants. Many of them reported a sense of comfort, greater control over the process, and a willingness to use the device in the future as well.

The company’s home ultrasound technology is already being used to monitor pregnancy from home, and now, as mentioned, the model is now being extended to the world of fertility treatments as well, using a vaginal ultrasound device that has been adapted to monitor the follicles.

According to Pelsanmore, it is a combination of home comfort and privacy and full medical liability. The clinical decisions are not made by the woman or the algorithm, but by expert doctors, exactly according to the accepted standards in clinics and hospitals. The device and the application are intended to be used as a tool for collecting quality data, but the medical responsibility remains with the treating staff.
