The president of Iran accuses Europe of collaborating with Israel and the US to “fragment” the country’s society

The president of Iran, Masud Pezeshkian, denounced this Saturday that Europe is collaborating with Israel and the United States to “fragment” the country’s society within the wave of protests and repression that is resulting in thousands of deaths while Tehran maintains that the unrest is being fomented by foreign forces.

In statements to Iranian state television, the president of Iran assures that his American counterpart, Donald Trump; The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu and the European countries “take advantage of our problems to provoke and pursue, as they continue to do right now, fragment society.”

The protests that broke out at the end of last year over the collapse of the rial, the national currency, ended up turning into an explosion of riots across the country days later. The Iranian government admitted that the economic protests were justified, but the confrontations they generated have been fueled by Washington, Tel Aviv and now, says Pezeskhian, the European authorities.

“It was they who took these troublemakers to the streets to destroy this country, sow conflict and hatred among the people and create division,” said the president, convinced that “everyone is already aware that this is not a social protest.”

“What they are doing,” he said, “is provoking, creating division and providing resources, attracting some innocent people to this movement.”

However, Pezeshkian, a somewhat more moderate reformist than the ultra-conservative clerical establishment, has insisted that the Iranian government must do everything possible to address any type of reasonable complaint from the people. “We must work with the people and for the people, and serve them as much as possible,” he indicated.
