New MacBooks with M5 Pro and Max could be imminent

The wait for the next generation MacBook Pro looks set to end in a matter of weeks. According to what analyst Mark Gurman reported in the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Apple would have planned the debut of the new laptops to coincide with the release cycle of macOS 26.3. This positions the devices’ release on the market by the end of March, following an update strategy that favors performance substance over design revolution.

The new models, identified internally with the code names J714 and J716, according to Gurman, will not represent the much-discussed transition to OLED panels or the introduction of touchscreens, innovations that remain fixed on a more distant time horizon. Instead, it will be an update focused on the integration of faster and more efficient processors such as M5 Pro and M5 Ultra, maintaining the current form factor that has characterized the latest iterations of the professional line. The goal is to consolidate computing power without altering a hardware architecture that has already proven its solidity in the high-end sector.

An unmistakable signal of the impending transition comes directly from Apple’s distribution chain and digital shelves. The availability of current high-end MacBook Pros has suffered a significant contraction in online stores, a phenomenon that usually precedes the removal of previous models to make room for new references. With software support for macOS 26.3 now in its final stages, the launch window between February and March appears to be the designated time for the renewal of the offer dedicated to professionals.
