Reuters: Khamenei warned of a possible regime fall in the event of an American strike

There are growing fears among the Iranian leadership that the American strike will cause a new wave of demonstrations that will lead to the fall of the ayatollahs’ regime. This was reported by Reuters, citing official sources.

According to them, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was told that the level of outrage over the authorities’ actions in suppressing opposition protests had reached a point at which fear had ceased to play a deterrent role, and that even a limited US strike would pose a mortal danger to the regime.

“A strike, combined with demonstrations by an angry people, could lead to collapse. This is the leadership’s main fear, and this is what our enemies want,” one of the sources said, noting that “unfortunately” the uprising would be met with a new wave of violence.

The publication’s interlocutors did not say how Khamenei responded to the warnings. However, their words indicate that despite the regime’s attempts to project self-confidence, its leadership is aware of the dangers it faces. “The wall of fear has collapsed. People are no longer afraid,” one source said.
