A jury finds a Peruvian guilty of the murder of the canon of Valencia, Spain latest

And popular jury declared this Tuesday guilty to a Peruvian accused of the murder, in January 2024, of the canon emeritus of the Valencia Cathedral (east)80 years old, whose body was found in his bed and with signs of violence due to asphyxiation.

For his part, the defense lawyer has proposed that a moderate sentence be handed down within the margin that the law allows.

During the trial, the defense has maintained that “there is no fingerprint of the accused, nor any trace of his DNA in the house” and that the facts constitute a continuing crime of fraud but that there is no criminal responsibility for the death of the priest, for which he requested a sentence of one year in prison.

After his death, it was revealed that the priest could have maintained a hidden life far from the spirituality and exemplarity that was assumed of him as a religious, the consequences of which could be closely related to his death.

According to police investigations and the story of neighbors and the concierge of the building, located in the historic center of the city and a few meters from the Archbishop’s Palace and the Cathedral, the canon supposedly used to have sexual relations with men in exchange for money.
