Anthropic assures that Claude will not include advertising and Sam Altman (OpenAI) defends the ChatGPT model

Anthropic has announced that it will not include advertising in its ‘chatbot’ Claude, under the premise that “there are many good places to advertise. A conversation with Claude is not one of them”, alluding to OpenAI’s move to add ads in ChatGPT

On January 16, OpenAI announced the integration of advertising in conversations with ChatGPT for free users and ChatGPT Go subscribers. In this way, advertisements will appear related to the queries made by users in the conversation with their artificial intelligence.

Given this measure, Anthropic has launched a series of ads in the United States for the Super Bowl in which it parodies OpenAI’s measure and ensures that they will not include advertising in the conversations with Claude.

This campaign, made up of four one-minute ads, satirizes situations in which users go to a humanized ‘chatbot’ with various queries. When asked “How can I communicate better with my mother?”, an AI disguised as a psychologist responds: “Here are some techniques you can try. Start by listening to her, try to understand what she really means, try to reach agreements with her, share activities. If the relationship cannot be fixed, you can find an emotional connection with mature women on ‘Golden Encounters’, the dating site that connects puppies with roaring mature women. Do you want me to create a profile for you?”

The rest of the ads ironize conversations in which the AI ​​suggests credit companies when they talk about opening a business, templates that add height for physical changes, or proposing to buy jewelry to celebrate the delivery of a university project.

Along with this television campaign, Anthropic has explained in a statement on its website that the inclusion of advertisements in the conversations would be “incompatible” with Claude’s mission of being an assistant focused on work and “deep reflection.”

According to Anthropic, “there are many good places to advertise. A conversation with Claude is not one of them.” “Our users will not see ‘sponsored’ links next to their conversations with Claude; their responses will not be influenced by advertisers nor will they include third-party advertising that our users have not requested,” he indicated.

After the broadcast of this advertising campaign, the CEO of OpenAISam Altman, has reacted in a post from X (formerly Twitter) defending his company’s measure to include advertising.

“Our most important principle for advertising is that we won’t do exactly that; obviously, we would never publish ads like Anthropic presents them. “We are not stupid and we know our users would reject it,” wrote Altman, who called Anthropic’s advertising campaign “dishonest” and “deceptive.”
