Iranian report: Hormashhar-4 missiles were deployed in underground “missile cities”.

According to the report, the missile is able to reach a speed of 16 times the speed of sound, estimated at tens of thousands of km/h, outside the atmosphere and about Mach 8 inside the atmosphere, data that the agency claims shortens the time to reach the destination by about 10-12 minutes from the moment of launch.

Range, warhead and guidance system: what is known about Hormashhar-4?

Khormashhar-4, which was first unveiled in May 2023 and is also known as Khyber, is classified as a medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM). According to open publications, it is a single-stage missile powered by liquid fuel, with a declared range of about 2,000 kilometers. This range puts it in the category of missiles capable of reaching targets throughout the Middle East.

Another key characteristic attributed to the missile is its ability to carry a warhead weighing an estimated 1.5 to 1.8 tons. Various publications state that this is the heaviest warhead among the ballistic missiles that Iran has officially confirmed. In Tehran they repeat and emphasize that the missile program is intended for defensive needs only.

At the same time, unverified reports have appeared in recent months about the possible development of another version, sometimes called “Khormashhar-5”, which is attributed a greater range. This information has not been confirmed in official publications in Iran.

Open sources and analyzes by international research bodies indicate that the missile may be equipped with a separate warhead, which detaches from the missile’s body during the phase of penetration into the atmosphere. It is also claimed that the guidance system combines inertial guidance with corrections based on satellite navigation, with the aim of improving the level of accuracy compared to previous generations of Iranian missiles.

It was also reported in Iranian media that the preparation time for launch was shortened compared to previous liquid fuel models, as part of an effort to improve the mobility of the missile array and its survivability. However, full details of the array of launchers, the deployment of the missile or its operational status have not been released. On June 18, 2025, a Khoramshahr-4 missile was launched for the first time towards the State of Israel following an operation with a dog. The missile is intercepted by the Arrow 3 system.
