Record of 67 billion VND to support cancer patients in Ho Chi Minh City

The information was announced by Dr. Diep Bao Tuan, Director of the Hospital, at the summary ceremony of patient support activities on February 5. This is the highest level of funding the hospital has ever received, a sharp increase compared to the figure of VND 54 billion in 2024.

Hospital leaders assess that this resource plays a key role in the context of increasing treatment pressure. Last year, this medical facility received more than 1.08 million medical examinations, an increase of 200,000 over the same period. To meet demand, the hospital has operated the entire facility 2 and received approval from the Department of Health to add 200 beds, increasing the total actual scale to 1,200 beds.

Master Nguyen Hong Diem, Head of the Social Work Department, said the amount of VND 67 billion was distributed directly and transparently to patients. Specifically, more than 30 billion VND was used to advance hospital fees for nearly 10,000 poor patients; 35 billion VND in cash and more than 38,000 gifts were given to patients.

In addition to direct financial support, philanthropic organizations also sponsored a system of specialized medical equipment worth more than 12.2 billion VND. Equipment such as multi-purpose bone drilling and sawing systems, automatic specimen dyeing machines, breast vacuum biopsy machines… help doctors diagnose early and treat more accurately. Currently, the hospital also deploys many advanced radiotherapy, surgery, targeted therapy and immunotherapy techniques.

Along with professional activities, the hospital focuses on taking care of the spiritual life of patients through the “Happy Meal” model, giving away breakfast at the beginning of the week with tens of thousands of nutritious meals. Art programs such as “Love Song” or piano music every morning in the waiting lobby help reduce stress for patients and medical staff. Particularly, pediatric patients have additional periodic entertainment activities such as cinema and birthday parties right at the hospital.

“This record funding resource is not simply a number but a revival for many families, helping patients reduce financial worries so they can feel secure about treatment,” said Dr. Tuan.
