An attempt was made on the life of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, deputy chief of the GRU, in Moscow.

An unknown person tried to shoot Lieutenant General of the Russian Ministry of Defense Vladimir Alekseev in the north-west of Moscow; he was hospitalized, said Svetlana Petrenko, official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (ICR).

In connection with the incident, a criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Art. 30, part 1 art. 105 (attempted murder), part 1 of Art. 222 (illegal trafficking in firearms).

According to Petrenko, on February 6, in a residential building located on Volokolamsk Highway in Moscow, “an unidentified person fired several shots at a man and fled the scene.” “The victim was hospitalized in one of the city hospitals,” she said.

There were no reports of any suspects being detained.

Judging by the available data, Alekseev is in serious condition and is in intensive care.

Vladimir Alekseev was born on April 23, 1961 in the village of Golodki, Khmelnyk district, Vinnitsa region of the Ukrainian SSR. After graduating from high school, he entered the Ryazan Airborne School, from which he graduated in 1984. He served as head of the intelligence department of the Moscow Military District, then of the Far Eastern Military District. Afterwards he was transferred to the central office of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Until 2011, he served as head of the 14th Directorate of the GRU of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. In 2011, he was appointed chief of staff – first deputy head of the Main Directorate. During the anti-terrorist operation in Syria, he commanded the actions of military intelligence officers. In the summer of 2023, during the Wagner rebellion, he took part in a conversation with Yevgeny Prigozhin in Rostov-on-Don, during which he stated in response to Prigozhin’s demand to provide him with Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov and Defense Minister Shoigu: “Take it!” Since 2016, under US sanctions for “malicious activities in cyberspace.” Since 2019, he has been under EU sanctions as responsible for the storage, transportation and use of the Novichok toxic substance on March 4, 2018 in Salisbury.

On April 25, 2025, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik (deputy chief of the main operational directorate of the Russian General Staff) was killed in Balashikha (Moscow region). Killed in a car explosion.

On December 17, 2024, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov (chief of the RKhBZ troops) and his assistant were killed in Moscow. The explosive device was planted in an electric scooter near the house.
