The world’s largest jewelry brand, Pandora, starts using platinum coatings instead of silver in some of its jewelry

World Pandora, one of the most famous jewelry brands, plans to change its silver jewelry to platinum-plated ones due to the strong price rally of silver.

The jewelry manufacturer plans to introduce versions of its jewelry, which until now were made of sterling silver, made of an alloy and coated with platinum.

Pandora plans to reduce the share of silver jewelry in its selection so that before long perhaps only a quarter will be silver, reports news agency Reuters. Currently, the share of silver jewelry belongs to the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC:n according to about 60 percent.

At least half of Pandora’s silver range is set to switch to platinum-plated jewelery in 2027.

Platinum is more expensive per ounce than silver. Since Pandora plans to use less platinum than silver in the jewelry, the jewelry will be both cheaper to make and less susceptible to strong movements in silver prices.

“We are a jewelry brand, not a silver merchant”, CEO of the Danish company Berta de Pablos-Barbier told Reuters.

The change is not expected to have a major impact on the price paid by the consumer, says the BBC.
