US President Donald Trump signed a decree allowing an increase in customs tariffs on imports from countries that continue to trade with Iran, Air Force.
The document does not indicate the specific amount of the duty, but describes the principle of its application. By way of example, it states that “beginning on the effective date of this order, an additional ad valorem rate of duty – such as 25% – may be imposed on goods imported into the United States and manufactured in any country that directly or indirectly purchases, imports, or otherwise acquires any goods or services from Iran.”
Trump mentioned the same level – 25% – in his post on the Truth Social website on January 12.
The order notes that “the President holds Iran accountable for pursuing nuclear capabilities, supporting terrorism, developing ballistic missiles, and regional destabilization that pose a threat to security, allies, and U.S. interests.”
Iran has not yet commented on Washington’s new move.
