Barça officially disengages from the Super League

FC Barcelona has announced this Saturday that it is officially dissociating itself from the European Super League project, the project that it joined in 2021 with the aim of reforming continental football and in which only Real Madrid remains.

“FC Barcelona informs that today it has formally notified the European Super League Company and the clubs that have been part of it of its disassociation from the European Super League project,” the Barça club said in a statement.

On April 19, 2021, twelve European clubs, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, announced the founding of a European Super League, which would be made up of a total of 20 teams. However, UEFA, FIFA and the national leagues showed their opposition to the project, and little by little all the signatory entities fell apart except Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, ​​the only ones that had held out until now.

On October 29, the Provincial Court of Madrid confirmed that UEFA and FIFA incurred “abuse of dominance and restriction by object by blocking competitors”, but did not endorse the Super League project promoted by the company A22 Sports Management and supported by the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez.
