The Israelis have opened boutique hotels in every corner of this country

For years, Greece has been the country to which the most Israelis fly each year. In 2025, for example, no less than 2,285,326 passengers from Israel took off to the island nation, far above the second-ranked country. Most Israelis land in Athens, but quite a few also arrive in Rhodes, Crete, Kos, Corfu and more.

“About 12 years ago there was a serious economic crisis in Greece and everyone was talking about investing in real estate in Greece,” says Uri Rom, owner of Santorini treasures. “We were before visiting Santorini for a vacation and I decided to combine this with meetings with real estate agents so that we could have a vacation home on the island. The agents showed us various properties and I was especially interested in sword houses in an authentic environment that, after the preservation of the Cycladic style, would be popular guest houses. And so, step by step, the business was built.”

And if you think that bureaucratic despair is more convenient in Greece, and that’s why quite a few Israelis start businesses there, Uri says that’s not the case: “It’s not easy to own a business that’s physically far from you. In the end, you have to choose high-quality staff members and pay them generously. With their help, you can operate remotely. Renovating houses with the help of professionals is also done in a similar spirit. Choose recommended people and pay them generously.”

The villas of Santorini treasures are located in a small village in Santorini called Emporio, in its old quarter, between two Venetian fortresses. She continues: “We have been working for years in hotels and hospitality in all kinds of places in the world. On the one hand, opening a business in Greece is easy, because everyone is nice and wants to help, and on the other hand, the Greek bureaucracy is never-ending. Only once you realize that If You Can’t Beat Them, Join Them, the road becomes more pleasant. Today we (and everyone) still face bureaucracy, but our dream hotel is open and makes us a lot of happiness.
